For centuries mothers have been carrying their babies. 50,000 years ago baby carriers were a new and advanced way of life. Women were able to carry their infants with them along with their food while they trekked many miles of terrain. This technological development led to a world where mothers were healthier and better fed.

One researched influence in baby carriers was climate. In warmer climates babies were being breastfed more frequently because the leading cause of infant death was dehydration. The mothers would more often that not be working in the fields during the day. They would leave their infants at home with loved ones and naturally this prevented them from feeding their babies as often as they needed to. When the mothers returned at night time they would spend as much time as possible with their infants feeding them and keeping them hydrated. Babies in warmer climates were usually carried in body slings due to their frequent need of milk.

In colder climates babies did not require much liquid and were therefore fed less frequently. They were strapped securely to a board and bound tightly to their mother’s backs with leather and thick fur, making it easier for the mothers to do their house hold duties and walk long distances.

Swaddling babies was commonly used by ancient Jews, Romans, and Greeks. It continued to be popular for baby carrying until the middle ages. The different ways to carry a baby way back when were numerous. Mothers now-a-days can go the historical baby carrying way by using baby slings and infant wraps. This is Meghan here from “So Cute Baby Gifts“, writing about the newest baby craze. Baby websites! Now even the younger than the youngest have websites! A friend of mine who was pregnant with a baby boy decided to create a website for her baby. She was beyond exited about this time in her life and wanted to be able to share it with all of her loved ones.
